Animation Lead

Herne Hill Media is a creative production studio, complete with in-house Art, Creature, Editorial, and Visual Effects Departments.

We collaborate with A-list directors, production teams, and filmmakers to develop projects from conception to completion. We embrace innovative approaches to design and workflows, where the artist is encouraged to run with their ideas and inspiration. We’re dedicated to offering a modern and safe working environment, including work-from-home, in-studio, or hybrid options. Embedded in this effort is support for one another in the moments that matter, both inside and outside the workplace.

Responsibilities

Work the entire animation production pipeline from integration to delivery

Work closely with the Animation Supervisor to produce high-quality animation and create compelling, story-driven moments that fit within the style of the project

Spend time animating and working on shots as required

Provide creative and technical feedback to your team

Set an example for animation quality within the Animation department

Work closely with the Rigging, Production and Pipeline departments providing suggestions and feedback to improve character setup, visual quality, rigs and tool functionality

Ongoing communication with Production, Supervisors and other Leads regarding schedules and deadlines

Work efficiently as part of a team, or independently, to complete assigned shots

Submit shots for review and follow through with notes and feedback

Meet schedules and show deadlines

Continue to become familiar with new tools, software, data and other related technology

Requirements

A minimum of 5 years Animation experience and 2 years in a Lead role

Superior animation skills, demonstrating a thorough understanding of principles of weight and movement

A proven understanding of performance and acting, physical motion, balance, texture and form

A proven understanding of body mechanics and physicality for creature and animal movement

Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills

A thorough knowledge of Maya

Ability to effectively tell a story through animation with creative flair

Developed knowledge of integrating Animation into development pipelines

Experience with motion capture a plus

Located in the heart of the Liberty Village neighborhood in Toronto, Ontario is Herne Hill’s studio. Our state of the art screening room is uniquely designed for remote sessions, while the natural light of the kitchen allows our custom fitted green screen to pop whenever we need. We’re spoiled for choice when it comes to lunch or late-night food offerings, and the relaxed, family friendly atmosphere of the neighbourhood permeates the workspace to challenge the grinding mentality and remind us that our work, while sometimes challenging, is ultimately exciting and rewarding.
